Nurses denied compensation crown: “A mockery”

[ad_1]

In the spring, the regional board of the Västra Götaland region decided that all healthcare personnel working in protective gear and treating COVID patients would receive corona compensation.

The sum was an additional SEK 500 per shift and the total bill would be estimated at SEK 74 million for the region.

– Those who work in units with patients infected with Covid-19 do a fantastic job. They work in difficult conditions that go far beyond normal. At the regional board we want to show our appreciation and give these employees additional compensation, said then the president of the regional board Johnny Magnusson (M).

But it turned out that compensation doesn’t apply to everyone.

Dialysis department refuses

In the dialysis room of the Östra Hospital in Gothenburg, he is not allowed to participate in the additional compensation, despite working long hours with heavy protective equipment and treating covid patients.

The department heads have tried to persuade the region, but without success.

– The result is that people get tired and angry because the management is obviously not familiar with how the business works. To exclude some who work a lot with covid … It doesn’t feel right, says nurse Jonna Blomborg.

She continues:

– I am aware that money does not change the situation in itself, but it had been appreciated and it had been a patch on the wound.

Considering quitting smoking

For Jonna, it has become so stressful that she is considering changing jobs.

– I have lost faith and I feel that I am going against my own values. I feel that instead of falling into the bitter hole, I should try to change my situation, because it feels untenable, he says.

The region responds to the criticisms and the decision via email:

“The Regional Board made a decision on May 26, 2020 on the additional remuneration in relation to covid-19 during the period from April 1 to June 30, 2020. A remuneration of SEK 500 per regular or extra shift worked ( not on call and emergency preparedness) for employees who have worked in units that only treat hospitalized patients with covid-19, where the employee must wear protective equipment. Professional groups working in the affected units have been included, ”the human resources department of the Västra Götaland region wrote in an email.

The new message from the region

On Thursday, DN reported that all health workers in the region will be entitled to extra money if they work between December 1 and January 10.

– The decision means 1,600 SEK per day in addition to salary for a moving holiday and 8,000 SEK for a full week. An additional shift is replaced by an additional 160 SEK per hour and this also applies to overtime, says Linn Brandström, chairman of the personnel committee in the Västra Götaland region, to the newspaper.
