On October 17, one of the City of Stockholm’s greatest public works of art of all time will be inaugurated: two giant sculptures in light blue concrete. The name is “Giants of Vårberg”, created by French artist Xavier Veilhan.

The artwork “The Giants of Vårberg” consists of two parts that together are made up of 85 large sky blue concrete blocks that have been assembled into finished sculptures. On the large lawn, Pelousen, below the nursing home in the Stockholm suburb of Vårberg, rests the great giant measuring 19 meters long, 9 meters wide and 5 meters high. About a hundred meters away, in Stråkparken, there is a three-meter-tall female figure resting her arms against the grass.

The second figure: a woman resting her arms on the grass.

Large-scale installations

The work’s creator, Xavier Veilhan, has worked since his debut in the 1990s with large-scale installations where, according to a press release from the city of Stockholm, he “explores the world around us constantly shifting between illusory and illusory. the real”.

– The artwork will be a real milestone for the residents of Vårberg and Stockholmers. My belief is that this fantastic work by Xavier Veilhan will surprise, awaken thoughts and touch people and create a completely unique identity for Vårberg, says Stefan Hagdahl, director of Stockholm Art.
