“Now it’s pizza and beer”

Niclas Andersén is not known for being a dangerous player. But in the original derby against Öis in Gamla Ullevi on Monday night, the left-back, who has played for Gais since 2017, struck. His 2-0 goal in the 56th minute would prove decisive in the match. It was Andersén’s first league goal at Gaiströjan and his first goal since scoring for Ljungskile in a 3-0 home win against Degerfors on 16 May 2015.

– I knew I could score. But I don’t know if he knew it himself. If there was any game he would score in, it was this one, says his teammate Julius Lindberg, who helped with the goal.

Niclas Andersén himself was very pleased after the victory in the original derby.

– Three points and we win Öes, he can’t improve! We kept a clean sheet, which was very nice and we scored two goals in the future. Then you win and you go up to the table, says the defender.

That he scored his first goal since 2015 also surprised him.

– He’s completely sick that he scored a goal. It is almost inconceivable. It was a good match to do it too. I can barely remember what it was like to score a goal, he admits.

But the total hit against Degerfors a little over five years ago, he actually remembers it.

– Yes, I remember. So it was also a good goal. When I got there at the edge today, I felt like I would hit it in the distance. He went in, so he can’t get better. Only the audience was missing. I am very happy, says Andersén.

He had been hooked before the original derby. Did the hairstyle have something to do with the target drought?

– Apparently it’s in the hair, he says laughing.

According to the 28-year-old, victory means a lot to everyone in and around the club. Dedicate earnings to followers.

– We felt that there was no chance in the world to lose this match. We would give this back to the fans. That was it, says Niclas Andersén.

Outside the arena, a group of happy fans waited, to say the least. After the victory, the players came out and sang with the fans in the street.

– It was really fun! The phase that we miss them. They are cruel, he says.

Now they are one point behind rival Öis on the table.

– We find it very difficult to stop right now. We fight and fight for each other. Coach Stefan Jacobsson has a great tactic that really works. Now we have taken four of the last five. “We found what we were looking for in the game,” he says.

How are you going to celebrate the derby win?
– Now it’s pizza and beer! Then we fall asleep, says the tired scorer.
