It was on October 1 that the Swedish Public Health Agency made it possible for the regions to introduce family quarantine and now is the time for Västra Götaland residents to bond with their family members.

Thomas Wahlberg, an infection control physician in the Västra Götaland region, hopes the measure will keep the spread of the infection down, which has increased in the region over the recent period.

– Of the confirmed cases we have, about a third are domestic contacts, so it is common to contract the infection from home, he says.

Doesn’t apply to everyone

The new rules of conduct apply to adults and high school students, but not to preschool, elementary, and special school children.

– The Swedish Public Health Agency has made this assessment based on the importance of going to school and that it is seen that the spread among children is not so great, says Thomas Wahlberg.

Why limit the time to seven days?

– This is because most people get sick in the first week. But after these seven days, you need to continue to be careful and limit the number of contacts, says Thomas Wahlberg,

In the clip above, Thomas Walhberg answers why he thinks the families will continue to quarantine.
