A message on whether the wreckage of the Estonian passenger ferry will be re-examined after the discovery of a new hole in the ship’s hull will be delayed until next year, Swedish radio Ekot reports.

In a documentary series broadcast on television in September, a large hole in the Estonian hull was reported, and further demands were made that the wreck should be examined. In October the discovery of another hole in the hull was announced.

But the decision on a new investigation is delayed.

– It will not be this year, it will be after the turn of the year as soon as I can think of now, says the researcher of the Norwegian Accident Investigation Board (SHK) Jörgen Zachau on the radio.

– Then there are three authorities who will do their job in this case and come up with something. If there’s something we don’t have in this case, you’re probably in a hurry.

SHK is working with the Finnish and Estonian authorities to assess what information may be worth investigating further.
