– This morning we had an unusual security situation in the prison where the life sentenced Peter Madsen was released from prison through threats against our employees, says prison director Hanne Høegh Rasmussen.

She says that no one was physically injured and that they are now dealing with members of their staff who were involved in the incident, which she describes as very mentally stressful.

– We are clarifying the course of events and I do not have much more information, but we will cooperate with the police to return with an account of what happened, says the director of the prison, Hanne Høegh Rasmussen.

According to the police, it is said that it was not long ago that Madsen was free before he was captured.

Pistol-type objects and pump belt.

– In connection with the arrest, drop something. Something that could be compared to a gun or a gun-like object, says Mogens Lauridsen of the Copenhagen police.

At Madsen you will also find a belt around the waist that could be interpreted as a bomb belt.

– There is no indication that there were explosives on the belt. We will investigate it now, but we believe it was a mannequin, police say at the press conference, Mogens Lauridsen says.

Caught in car

When Madsen was arrested, he had just gotten into a white van that had stopped nearby. According to the police, nothing indicates that the driver of that car had any idea that this would happen.

– Jump in the car just before our patrol reaches him on the spot, says Mogens Lauridsen.

In the afternoon, witnesses are removed from the prison staff.
