Chris Carr, a state attorney in the United States of Georgia, has asked federal authorities to investigate how local authorities handled a flashy case in which two white men are suspected of shooting at a running black man.

It was on February 23 this year that Ahmaud Arbery, 25, was shot to death during a running tour in Brunswick, Georgia. But just last week, the two suspects, father and son Gregory and Travis McMichael, were arrested after a video of the incident circulated on social media and sparked protests across the country.

The two prosecutors who handled the case in Georgia dismissed it in the spring and referred to the dispute.

“The family, the community and the state of Georgia deserve answers,” Carr said in a statement.
