Norwegian private savers share favorites in February

The most popular stock in Norway in February was the energy company Aker Horizons, which was bought net for NOK 407 million in February. Aker Horizons was the most talked about listing on the Oslo Stock Exchange at the beginning of the year. The issue was oversubscribed several times and, at the time of writing, the stock is the eighth most bought on the entire Oslo Stock Exchange.

Hydro, Mowi and Storebrand top the February sales chart.

The energy sector has been popular in Norway in February, says Mads Johannesen, an investment economist at Nordnet Norway.

“Oil prices have risen sharply since November 2020, with oil prices above $ 65 a barrel,” he says.

In addition to Aker Horizons, the sector’s popular stocks in February were also Ren Silicon and Aker BP.

When investors feel “insecure” about the future, they are happy to seek “safe havens.” Orkla, with its stable business model, is such a port for many Norwegian shareholders.

In the most recent period, so-called ESG stocks have fallen on the Norwegian stock market, along with tech stocks. Higher interest rates and ongoing sector turnover have been a couple of explanations.

Long-term interest rates have focused recently and the 10-year-old American has only risen 57 percent this year. This is a positive sign for economic growth, as market prices will experience a significant economic rebound in the future, says Mads Johannesen.

Stocks like Norsk Hydro, Aker BP and Yara have risen 5 to 20 percent in February alone, when the reporting season was in full swing. Most of the companies on the Oslo Stock Exchange have performed better than analysts expected.

The most popular stocks on the Oslo Stock Exchange in February were Aker Horizons, Red Silicon and Orkla.

The three best-selling stocks on the Oslo Stock Exchange in February were Norsk Hydro, Mowi and Storebrand.
