Lars Lagerbäck can lead the team to Austria.

The Norwegian team was never allowed to travel to Romania, but the match was canceled.

But now it is clear that they will send an “emergency national team” to the game against Austria on Wednesday, where, among other things, Djurgården’s Fredrik Ulvestad is said to be part of the team.

The flight to Romania was only an hour away when the final message came: the Norwegian national team couldn’t go.

The Nations League match, which was supposed to be played on Sunday, was canceled due to a crown infection in the Norwegian team.

– We are very disappointed that the authorities force us to stay at home. The other 54 UEFA nations are playing international matches this week, except Norway, Stefan Johansen, Martin Ödegaard and Joshua King say in a press release.

But now the Norwegian Football Association is doing its best to get a match against Austria on Wednesday, a match that in the event of a win could secure a Norwegian group win.

Late on Sunday night, the association confirms that it will send out a national B team led by U21 coach Leif Gunnar Smerud.

– Despite a special situation, I hope to meet the players who in a chaotic situation responded with great willingness to help the national team, says Smerud in a press release.

Fixed in quarantine

All players in Romania’s imaginary squad are trapped in quarantine and therefore completely excluded from games.

The planned team b will consist, among other things, of players from European clubs that they do not normally place and players in Norway who have already had covid-19 and then avoid quarantine rules.

For VG, multiple players confirm that they have received calls to line up.

– I will definitely appear if necessary, but we will see how it turns out because it is probably also the World Cup in logistics, said before the hill of the MFF Andreas Vindheim, now in Sparta Prague, earlier on Sunday.

According to the newspaper, Fredrik Ulvestad from Djurgården is also one of the players contacted, as is Mattias Dyngeland from Elfsborg. Dif goalkeeper PK Bråtveit is also relevant. To a certain extent because he recently had the disease and thus escapes the quarantine rules that may arise.

Travel together from Norway

According to VG, due to the complicated entry rules in Austria, players must meet in Norway for the joint exit from there. Then the only thing that matters is that everyone who comes to Oslo is healthy.

The company will present itself in full at 11 a.m. on Monday. Two days before the game is played.

– There have been difficult commitments, but we are happy that the match can be played, says the association’s general secretary, Pål Bjerketvedt.
