The previous week, the reproduction rate was 0.89. The higher the R number, the greater the spread of infection, but the National Institute of Public Health writes in its weekly report that the calculations are somewhat uncertain. It is easier to get an R number when many people have been hospitalized, which is not the case in Norway, where only 19 people with covid infection are hospitalized.
The spread of the infection has intensified in the Norwegian capital, mainly among young adults. In the past two weeks, more than 20 out of 100,000 people have been infected with the virus in 14 of the 15 districts. Almost all of Oslo is now classified as red, the highest of the various levels of Norwegian infection control. In the last 24 hours, 55 new cases have been confirmed, compared to 22 the day before.
The local outbreak between Bergen university students are under control. The same applies to the outbreak in Sarpsborg and Fredrikstad after a religious holiday, where hundreds of people were infected and more than 2,500 were quarantined.
– Now it is Oslo that is on the front line and must do the work that is necessary for all of us, Health Minister Bent Høie said at a press conference on Wednesday.
Restrictions have been tightened locally in Oslo to curb the infection. People are encouraged to wear mouth guards when traveling by train, subway, bus or tram, and in all places where it is not possible to stay at least one meter away, such as in shopping malls and grocery stores. Anyone who can be encouraged to work from home and serve are expected to register their guests to facilitate infection tracking.
Director of Infection Control Norway Frode Forland has told DN that home youth parties are behind a significant part of the spread of the infection. Therefore, a ban has also been introduced for more than ten people in private homes in Oslo. The new rules apply for two weeks.
According to Health Minister Bent Høie, the spread of the infection in Norway is low compared to most other countries. And despite the growing pandemic, the upcoming fall holidays are not in danger. It is free to travel to vacation homes and take a walk.
The National Institute of Public Health writes in its report Lithuania and Iceland should be on the red list, as the countries have more than 20 infected per 100,000 inhabitants. This means a travel stop for those who do not want to be quarantined.
Norway has a total of 13,153 confirmed cases of covid-19 and 267 deaths related to the disease.
