Norway extends travel stops until August 20

The Foreign Ministry’s recommendation to travel abroad will be valid until August 20 in Norway, says Prime Minister Erna Solberg (Høyre).

– The changes that are implemented today will be constantly evaluated against the infection situation, says Solberg.

Travel restrictions for leisure travel to the Nordic neighboring countries should be considered no later than June 15. Before July 20, the councils will also review other neighboring European countries.

Solberg says there is no clearer message than that at the moment.

– But we don’t want to hold this any longer than we have to, and we want to give people and the travel industry the best predictability possible, Solberg says, according to NRK.

The applicable entry quarantine in Norway will also continue until August 20, but can also be released on the same date that travel restrictions are to be considered.

At the same time, the government is open to travel within Norway, provided it is done in a way that does not spread the infection.

– You can go on vacation anywhere in the country, says Solberg.

From June 1, tourist trips from the mainland to Svalbard are also allowed.

Business Minister Iselin Nybø (Venstre) says that foreign tourists can now cancel their planned vacation in Norway and that the cabins and hotels can be occupied by Norwegian tourists.

– Now we are opening so that the Norwegians can travel through our beautiful and long country this summer. I hope that many people will take the opportunity to become tourists in their own country, especially since it is important for that industry to survive, says Iselin Nybø, according to NTB.

The government also gave a long-awaited message: that grandchildren can now meet their grandparents.

“What is perhaps the most gratifying news for many is that grandparents may go on vacation with their family,” says Erna Solberg.

However, if infection in the community increases again, those with a slightly increased risk of coronavirus should consider whether to go on vacation and travel, he added.
