The Finnish league introduces requirements for a full visor to curb the spread of infections.

But a similar ban is not relevant in Swedish hockey, and Anders Tegnell supports it:

– I have no idea what (Liiga) builds this on, says the state epidemiologist from the Public Health Agency.

The corn pandemic is keeping the world under control and this applies especially to the world of sports, where games are canceled and leagues stop their activities.

The latter has happened in Finland, where the highest league, Liiga, closed all matches in early December.

On the second day of Christmas, it is thought that the league will start again and then with a completely new requirement: all players must wear full coverage scopes.

– We have decided that a full visor should be worn when the season continues. This is an infection control measure, says competition director Arto I. Järvelä to Iltalehti.

A measure that Anders Tegnell finds strange:

– I have no idea what this is based on. In our analyzes, it doesn’t seem likely that a large part of the infection occurs on ice, Tegnell says.

But that something similar is introduced in the SHL is not relevant, according to Johan Hemlin.

– We had that discussion at the end of the summer, but then there were no reports that it would have any effect in any way. It is not relevant at present.

And the situation during the fall does not make you change?

– No, this problem only came up then (the summer) and no other report that has come to our attention says it would have any impact, says Hemlin.

Get cases detected in SDHL

SDHL plays with a full visor and few cases have been discovered.

– I don’t want to comment on SDHL, but I can say that the reason SHL has a lot of cases is because we tested a lot.

Is there anything that can make you change your mind?

– It should be if there are requirements related to protective equipment. So of course we have to follow them, says Hemlin.

Also at Hockeyallsvenskan there is no need for a visa:

– We have seen it before from a central location, probably two months ago. But there is no medical study to show that it would have a major effect, says athletic director Erik Ryman, continuing:

– It is not something that we should introduce and have as an obligation, but, of course, it is voluntary that each individual wears a full visor. If there are studies that really show that it stops the spread of infection, we may have to do something.

On the other hand, Ryman would like ordinary mouthguards to be used to a greater extent in the arenas:

– I think you should look at that anyway. Today, there is a requirement for mouth guards on flights and this must be taken into account when traveling on buses, also in players’ cabins and secretariats.

Sportbladet has sought out the competition director of the Swedish Ice Hockey Association, Olof Östblom.
