Helsingborg announced on Friday that two association players have been infected with covid-19, one of whom is in team A. Previously, midfielder Armin Gigovic had also been confirmed to be infected.
Helsingborg says that Smittskydd Skåne and Infektionskliniken Helsingborg have today issued a strong recommendation to HIF not to engage in soccer activities for the time being, and until the infection situation has been established.
– We do not believe that the match should be held because we do not want to contribute to the spread of the infection. Besides the fact that we are concerned about our players, we are also concerned about the Djurgården players, says Joel Sandborg, director of the Helsingborg IF club.
– I find it difficult to see that you as an opponent want to carry out a match like this. We hope everyone takes it seriously, says Sandborg.
How does it look for future matches, are they also in danger?
– We do not know. But it’s a break until the next game, so there’s time to play there, says Joel Sandborg.
Despite Helsingborg’s request, Djurgården’s sporting director Bosse Andersson says they are still willing to play Sunday’s game.
– Is rare. For us there is a flight at 4.30pm and we have been in contact with Helsingborg doctor Harald Roos, at the moment, he does not see any problems. He says we should go, so we listen to him and let’s play the game, he says.
Something that is not is correct according to HIF doctor Harald Roos.
– It’s completely wrong. I just spoke with the Djurgården physiotherapist and we completely agree that we have no idea whether the match will be played or not. We won’t get it until the competition committee gives us that decision, Roos tells Fotbollskanalen.
