He stepped forward and apologized.

Tommy Salo is now supported by former NHL star Nicklas Lidström and former national team captain Curt Lundmark.

– I hope you get the help you need because Tommy is a friend, says Lidström.

– I’ve felt so bad about this that you have no idea. Tommy is like a little son to me, says Lundmark.

It’s been just over two months since the former Tre Kronor hero was caught for aggravated drunk driving, when he had 3.06 per thousand in his blood.

Tommy Salo showed up today and apologized for his actions.

– This was the drop. There will be no more alcohol for me, writes on Facebook.

Among the comments on the post, he receives support from past players such as Petter Rönnqvist and Leif Rohlin.

“Helpless”

When Sportbladet reaches Nicklas Lidström, a player with whom Salo shared great sporting moments on Tre Kronor, he just read Tommy Salo’s apology.

– What he did is indefensible but strong to go out and admit what he did wrong.
I hope he gets the help he needs because Tommy is a friend, says former star defender “Lidas.”

Nicklas Lidström, 50, is also looking forward to speaking with his former colleague from the national team.

– I have looked for it but I have not received an answer yet, he tells Sportbladet.

The paths of Tommy Salos and Curt Lundmark first crossed in 1989, when Lundmark was the captain of Juniorkronorna and Salo’s national team on the grass to join as a minor. Later, they also won Olympic gold together at Lillehammer.

Now Lundmark is suffering with his friend and former player:

– I’ve known for several years that Tommy has had problems. I know he felt very bad and had a bad time with himself. I don’t know if the bottom has now been reached, but of course I hope so. May you recover and get the help you need. I think this was indeed a powerful cry for help. Although of course there is a completely wrong way to do it.

When was the last time you met?

– A few days before this happened (drunk driving). We train in the same gym a couple days a week and buzz a bit when we first met.

Did you speak after this happened?

– No. I’ve looked for Tommy, but he’s changed his phone number and he’s become inaccessible. I don’t want to chase him, but he knows where I am if he needs to talk.

How do you feel about what happened?

– I’ve felt so bad about this that you have no idea. I like Tommy so much, he’s like a little son to me. I just want him to do well because he’s a really nice guy at heart, says Curt Lundmark.
