The spread of the coronavirus is once again rampant in New York.
The state follows the example of Sweden and introduces a ban on alcoholic beverages after 10 pm.
– This is our LAST chance to stop a second wave, tweets Mayor Bill de Blasio.
After infection rates spike again in New York, the state is again forced to impose tough restrictions. As of tomorrow, Friday, all gyms, bars and restaurants must close no later than 10 pm At the same time, social gatherings, both indoors and outdoors, are limited to ten people. The ban also applies to private events.
– Bars, restaurants, gyms and house parties. That’s where it mostly spreads from, State Governor Andrew Cuomo announced at Wednesday’s news conference.
However, restaurants that do not have a service permit can continue as usual. Restaurants and bars are also allowed to deliver food delivery even after 10pm.

“Last chance”
The neighboring states of New Jersey and Connecticut also face similar restrictions. In Westchester County, on the New York-Connecticut border, the so-called “orange zone” is being introduced, which means, among other things, that schools will be closed and religious gatherings restricted.
Even though the spread of the infection is not at peak levels in the spring, the state’s figures are constantly pointing in the wrong direction. On Wednesday, 1,628 new patients were reported to have been hospitalized, the highest number since mid-June, and the average number of positive covid tests increased markedly.
– This is our LAST chance to stop the second wave. We can do it, but we must act NOW, New York Mayor Bill de Blasio wrote on Twitter.
The events in New York are a reflection of how it looks in the rest of the country, where infection rates have reached new records almost daily in recent weeks. For the first time, a total of more than 140,000 new infections were reported on Wednesday.

Critical Republicans
Several Republicans have expressed dissatisfaction with the new restrictions in New York. In particular, Andrew Cuomo does not point to the large-scale celebration of Joe Biden, when he was declared the winner of the presidential election, as a factor behind the spread of the infection.
– It is interesting that Cuomo does not mention the celebration of Biden but has no problem in pointing to the Jewish community, tweets Sara Carter, who works for the conservative television channel Fox News.
“Pseudoscience and tyranny at its worst,” responded Arizona Republican Andy Biggs, who sits in the House of Representatives.
Experts have raised concerns about the risk of spreading the infection in connection with the festivities surrounding Joe Biden’s victory. There are no estimates yet of how many could have been infected during those meetings.
