A protection hunt against a wolf is being carried out in a limited area in the Osby area. The new attack has taken place a few kilometers east of the previous attacks and outside the area for protection hunting. In previous cases, the Skåne County Administrative Board was able to establish that the attacks were carried out by a wolfdog that had been the subject of protective hunting in Jönköping and Västra Götaland counties.

The bitch was born in the Tönsen district in Gävleborg county and is not considered genetically important to the wolf population.

More wolves?

The Skåne county administrative board is now investigating whether it is the same wolf that has moved a few kilometers east, or if there are multiple wolves in the county. Until a response is received, the protection hunting area will not be expanded.

– We have sent a saliva sample from the last attack and have requested an urgent analysis from the Wildlife Damage Center. Until further notice, Friday’s decision on the time and area for protective hunting remains unchanged, says Environmental Director Annelie Johansson at the Skåne County Administrative Board in a press release.
