Frölunda used a suspended player and Åtvidaberg was transferred to one instead, according to a ruling by the disciplinary committee of the Swedish Football Association.
Qualifying matches became controversial when Åtvidaberg was struck by a generalized corona infection earlier. Both teams appealed to the association for the playoffs to be canceled and for both clubs to obtain a spot in Division 1.
However, the association decided that the matches would be played and Västra Frölunda took the lead thanks to away goals when the double encounter ended 3-3 in total.
But after the return on Sunday Åtvidaberg announced that Frölunda had used midfielder Anton Delwér, who should actually have been suspended. Åtvidaberg achieved a 3-0 victory on the return leg and thus a 3-2 total in the qualifying meeting.
Now the disciplinary committee of the Swedish Football Association has given the right to Åtvidaberg and thus the classic club rises to number one.
Frölunda has until Monday to appeal the verdict.
