All patients with symptoms of Covid-19 developed antibodies according to a new Swedish study. However, in some patients, with mild symptoms, particularly sensitive test methods were required to find the antibodies. Routine care methods weren’t enough.

Sahlgrenska’s study in Gothenburg covers only 47 patients, but shows promising results. The patients were followed up with blood tests for up to three months after illness.

Some patients became seriously ill. For some, the condition became life threatening. All patients requiring hospitalization developed elevated levels of antibodies.

Almost all patients with mild disease also developed antibodies that could be found by routine methods, even if the levels were lower.

However, in a tenth of the mild patients, special tests were needed to detect the antibodies.

The results indicate that “the vast majority” who have had a covid-19 infection with symptoms develop antibodies, according to researchers at Sahlgrenska University Hospital and Sahlgrenska Academy.

Antibody levels did not decrease greatly during the three months of the study. It may be important for long-term immunity to COVID-19, according to researchers in Gothenburg.
