The new strategy will favor wild-sourced Klarälvsfisk and will also secure the supply of farmed Gullspångsfisk. This means that the Klarälvsfisk brood is discontinued and replaced with Gullspångsfisk.
According to the County Administrative Board, fishing for goldfish grows faster and gets bigger and is therefore attractive to fishing.
– This will be noticed in Lake Vänern in the coming years, says Anna Hagelin, project manager of the Västra Götaland County Administrative Board, in a press release.
The clear river becomes pure wild salmon river
When it comes to species conservation work, today it seems pretty bright for both wild Klarälv salmon and natural Klarälvsöring. Therefore, they no longer need to be postponed for preservation.
Instead, the strategy means that the salmon smolt and Gullspång log trout can take on the role of compensatory fish for reduced fishing due to the expansion of the power plant. The Klar River will in the future become a river of pure wild salmon.
Cultivation on land
The new strategy also includes the construction of a new onshore breeding station at Gammelkroppa in the municipality of Filipstad. With this, the players hope to be able to secure future cultivation and compensatory release from Gullspångstam to Vänern.
The new strategy also means that fish farming will be suspended at the Forshaga plant.
The players who together developed the strategy for the future of salmon in Vänern are the Västra Götaland and Värmland County Administrative Boards, Fortum Sverige AB, Gammelkroppa Lax AB and the Swedish University of Agriculture.
