New nasal lines found in Peru – giant cat

The cat was found trying to improve the chances of climbing a hill that is a natural observation point to observe several of the other Nasca lines. It is 37 meters long and the lines themselves are between 30 and 40 centimeters wide.

Because it is made on a fairly steep hill, it was affected by soil erosion and was on the verge of disappearing.

“During the past week, the geoglyph was cleaned and preserved, and shows a cat figure in profile, with the head pointing forward,” writes the Ministry of Culture of Peru.

Nascal lines have been part of the UN’s world heritage since 1994. They consist of hundreds of different figures created by removing stones and dirt so that other contrasting materials become visible. The lines are located in an area of 450 square kilometers in the dunes of southern Peru.

Other figures have been found in the past, such as a killer whale, a monkey and a hummingbird.

– It is quite striking that we still find new figures, but at the same time we know that there is more to be found, says Johny Isla, chief archaeologist of the country’s Nasca Lines, to the Spanish news agency Efe.

In recent years 80-100 new figures have been found in the Nasca and Palpa valleys. All date from the time before the Nasca culture, which lasted between 200 and 700 AD.

According to the chief archaeologist, the cat belongs to the end of the Paracas era, between 500 BC. C. and 200 d. C.
