Lukashenko meets Putin
The meeting between Putin and Lukashenko will be held in Moscow, according to a Kremlin statement, but a date has not yet been announced. Not exactly what the meeting will be about.
However, given the recent events in Belarus, with continued demonstrations against President Lukashenko, security in the country is said to be on the agenda. Putin announced earlier this week that his fellow president had asked him to form a reserve force with the police deployed in Belarus if the security situation worsened.
However, the Russian president announced that it was not relevant to intervene in the current situation.
Lukashenko also warned that the Belarusian and Russian armies could do something together if a threat emerged from the West.
The EU has previously announced that sanctions will be imposed on Belarus, but it is not yet clear how. Mr Lukashenko, meanwhile, has warned that he is prepared to respond in kind.
