At 08:15 on Thursday, the Minister of Social Affairs, Lena Hallengren, and the Director General of the Public Health Agency, Johan Carlson, will present a new general council for people over 70 years of age.
None of those involved wanted to comment on what this council will contain on Wednesday.
State epidemiologist Anders Tegnell also declines to comment on what will be said during the press conference.
Is what will be presented something that has been preceded by long discussions or something that has emerged in the last few days?
– Both and I would say. Now there are fast drives and it will be a mix of old and new commitments, Anders Tegnell tells DN.
How is the situation in Sweden right now?
– Tomorrow we have a meeting with all infection control and then we will see if there are more areas that have an increase in infection.
It was on April 1 of this year that the Swedish Public Health Agency presented general advice to counteract the spread of the infection in Sweden.
There, the authority determined that “People over the age of 70 and those belonging to other risk groups should limit their close physical contact with other people and completely avoid traveling on public transport and other public transport.”
According to the authority, anyone over the age of 70 should also avoid shopping in stores like pharmacies and grocery stores or staying in other places where people gather.
At the end of May, many believed that the authorities would ease restrictions for the elderly, but on May 27, the Swedish Public Health Agency released a survey showing that it was not yet possible to change the advice.
DN will broadcast the press conference live.
