New crown drop at IFK Gothenburg: Kouakou tested positive

It refers to Mattias Bjärsmyr and August Erlingmark. They were the first to test positive for COVID-19 in IFK Gothenburg’s A-team. Both apparently contracted the infection from family members.

It is more doubtful how Christian Kouakou came into contact with the coronavirus.

– We do not know. We don’t know where he got it from. It is not as clear as with “Bjärs” and “Agge”, says sports director Pontus Farnerud.

However, it is clear that Kouakou was isolated from the rest of the team and staff in Kamratgården in the middle of last week. And that he left a positive test on Monday.

– It wasn’t bad when you were here last week. Then it got worse overnight in the middle of the week. As before, we follow the restrictions. There we feel very confident that once again we have performed very well, says Pontus Farnerud.

Still, are you worried that the infection will start to spread on the team of players?

– Of course we don’t want it to spread. And we do our best to keep you away from Kamratgården with different kinds of restrictions. It is clear that we are trying to be even more careful than before.

Due to the national team hiatus, IFK Gothenburg have not played an Allsvenskan match since 8 November against Helsingborg. The next match is Monday, derby against Häcken.

It is unclear if Christian Kouakou can be included at the time. The same applies to August Erlingmark, who has yet to return to training.

– We follow the restrictions and right now he is not recovered enough to return. We hope it will be as soon as possible, says Pontus Farnerud.
