New clear increase: more people want to get vaccinated against covid-19

In August, only 36 percent of Swedes were confident about taking the new corona vaccine. The figure has gradually risen from 46 percent in November to 71 percent now in December, the Novus opinion institute survey shows, where 1,578 people between the ages of 18 and 79 were interviewed.

Bettan Brynsö and her friend think it is obvious to get vaccinated.

– Why not get vaccinated? That’s the best you can do, he tells SVT.

“It looks promising”

Matti Sällberg, a professor at the Karolinska Institutet in Huddinge and a vaccine expert, is not surprised that more people are positive about the vaccine today, compared to August.

– When you’ve seen these studies, it looks really promising. People have gained confidence in those who produce the vaccine, and the producers have made it clear that if there were any signs of side effects in the clinical studies, they stopped the study, examined it, and then continued when they were sure, he says.

Those most positive to receive the vaccine are those between 65 and 79 years old, among them 82 percent want to be vaccinated, but also among young people between 18 and 29 years old, 66 percent are positive.

12 percent do not want to be vaccinated

But not everyone has decided what to do with the vaccine. The Novus survey shows that 17 percent still don’t know whether to get vaccinated. 12 percent say no to the vaccine. In that group, 83 percent respond that they choose not to receive the vaccine because they are concerned about side effects. Respondents were given the opportunity to choose various response options, with 12 percent of the group saying they think the vaccine is bad overall. 15 percent do not want to receive the vaccine because they believe they already have or have had covid-19.

– I want to know a little more, what are the side effects of the vaccine, you don’t want to be the first, says Bode Näslund to SVT.
