New cases in Norway make the Minister of Health warn

A total of more than 1,000 people have been quarantined after a Covid-19 outbreak in the Norwegian municipalities of Sarpsborg and Fredrikstad.

The outbreak may be linked to a religious gathering held in Sarpsborg last week. In total, more than 150 new cases of covid-19 have been linked to the incident.

500 people are in quarantine in Sarpsborg and another 600 in the adjacent Fredrikstad.

– These are too high figures and that makes the situation very serious. The good news is that we still haven’t found any spread from here to other parts of society, says chief physician Karianne Jenseg Bergman.

To prevent further spread, Norwegian Health Minister Bent Høie (H) urges his compatriots to think twice before leaving on Saturday night.

– My call is that you can wake up on Sunday and think that you have not done anything this weekend that you regret, and that you are aware that there is now a greater spread of the infection, especially among young adults, says the Health Minister.
