Hong Kong police arrested eight people suspected of crimes related to the demonstrations for democracy in July.

Eight other people were arrested on Monday, three of whom are suspected of violating the criticized security laws that came into force on the last day of June this year and that allow sentences of up to life imprisonment for subversive activity, separatism, terrorism or alienation. by foreign forces. All eight are said to have demonstrated in front of a university in November.

The arrests come a week after three well-known democracy activists were sentenced to prison for their leading roles in the democracy protests that have rocked Hong Kong since last year.

More than 10,000 people have been arrested in the last 18 months and a large number of prominent activists and opposition figures in Hong Kong are facing various lawsuits.
