In Navalny’s eyes, there is only one explanation for the poisoning.
“I affirm that Putin is behind the crime,” he told the German newspaper. Mirror.
The nearly two-hour interview is Alexei Navalny’s first since he collapsed on a flight from Tomsk to Moscow on August 20. The 44-year-old politician describes how he told staff he had been poisoned before collapsing on the ground.
He heard voices in the distance and a woman urging him to remain conscious.
– That was it. I knew he was dead. Only later did I realize that I was wrong, says Navalny.
Water bottle
The Kremlin critic flew to Germany, where he was in a coma for the first time. Three Western European laboratories, one German, one French and one Swedish, have determined that he was poisoned with the Soviet-made neurotoxin novitjok. It was probably from a bottle of water that Navalny drank at the hotel before boarding the flight, according to his staff.
He has since been released from the hospital but remains in Berlin for rehabilitation.
In the morning he takes walks in the park and then awaits more exercises with the medical staff. In an interview, she also says that she has started juggling, to train her coordination. She also practices balancing on one leg.
Thinking of going back
But Navalny does not accept being an opposition leader in exile.
“I will not give Putin the gift of not returning to Russia,” he said.
– I will continue traveling through the regions of Russia, I will stay in hotels and drink the water in the rooms. What else can I do?
The Kremlin has denied any involvement and accuses Western leaders of spreading misinformation about the case. They refer to a test that the Russian doctors who first treated Navalny should have done and who believe that he did not show poisoning.
