Alexei Navalny, a critic of the Russian regime, has been transferred from a prison in Moscow to an institution of unknown origin. The move indicates that Navalny will begin serving the sentence to which he was sentenced and that the outside world sees it as a politically motivated verdict.

– They didn’t tell anyone where they sent him, says his lawyer Olga Michailova.

Not even his immediate family has been informed, and Navalny’s close associate, Leonid Volkov, is concerned about the secrecy.

Navalny was sentenced to two years in prison for violating a suspended sentence. He did not appear before authorities while in Germany for treatment after being poisoned.

At the same time, Navalny supporters urge the public to honor the death of another critic of the regime: Boris Nemtsov.

Nemtsov was shot and killed in central Moscow and quite close to the Kremlin on February 27, 2015, and flowers are usually placed at the murder scene.
