MTV Gala pays tribute to Chadwick Boseman | GP

– We dedicate tonight’s gala to a man whose soul has touched so many. He is a true hero, not just on the blank canvas, but in everything he did. It affected many people’s lives forever, said the evening’s host, actor Keke Palmer.

– His talent and passion is a true inspiration to all the fans who were touched by him and to everyone he met.

The gala showed clips from Boseman’s career and from the music channel’s 2018 film gala, where Boseman won the best hero award, for the film “Black Panther.” In his acceptance speech, Boseman paid tribute to the heroes of reality and presented his statuette to James Shaw Jr., who fought a shooter at a waffle restaurant and likely prevented at least four people from being killed.

Chadwick Boseman died last Friday in the colon cancer suites. He turned 43 years old.

The gala was held like so many other events this year primarily through a video link.

Artists like Ariana Grande and the Black Eyed Peas performed in various venues, but without an audience, and Miley Cyrus offered her new single, “Midnight sky.” As a nod to the smash hit “Wrecking Ball,” Cyrus performed her new song sitting on a large disco ball.

Canadian rapper The Weeknd also performed, and soon after won the gala’s biggest award, video of the year, for the song “Blinding lights.”

Most of the big awards, however, came from Lady Gaga.

The singer, who changed her clothes at every performance, took home the awards for both artist of the year and song of the year. She received the latter award along with Ariana Grande for the duo “Rain on me,” which was also nominated for this year’s collaboration.

Grande also won an award for her collaboration with Justin Bieber, for the song “Stuck with U,” for best home recorded video. That award, as well as the best performance in similar quarantine, are awards the channel hopes to avoid giving out next year.

K-pop group BTS could also feel like a winner. The group is now the statuette holder of, among other things, this year’s group and this year’s pop song with “On,” which was also named K-pop song of the year.
