When Tottenham visited Shkendija in the third qualifying round of the Europa League qualifier on Thursday, the match had a strange prelude.
During the warm-up, Tottenham goalkeepers Hugo Lloris and Joe Hart reacted to the goals feeling small, writes The Guardian.
– They spend hours and hours in the goal to know when they are not the right size, Spurs coach José Mourinho tells the newspaper.
Mourinho himself stepped out onto the pitch and walked to the goal and took a look, and made the same discovery. It was smaller than usual.
Mourinho summoned the UEFA delegate and a measurement was taken which showed that the targets in the North Macedonia national arena were five centimeters lower than they should be.
Goals were exchanged and Tottenham won the match 3-1.
After the match, Mourinho posted a photo on Instagram with himself under one of the small goals, with the caption:
“I thought it had grown, but then I realized that the goal was two inches lower.”
Local North Macedonia club Shkendija said they were unaware that goals were smaller than they should be when playing in a stadium that was not their usual field.
