The maritime rescue made more efforts in August than usual. But in total, during the period from May to August, the figures remain at the same levels as those of the last four years, despite the fact that many “have entered” in pleasure boats.
According to preliminary figures from the Swedish Maritime Administration, a total of 829 maritime salvage operations were carried out during the summer months of the year. Västra Götaland County accounted for the largest share with 168 initiatives, followed by Stockholm (130) and Skåne County (100). Most of the efforts were made to help various types of pleasure craft.
“The causes of the alarms, as usual, have varied and have been everything from engine breakdowns and traffic jams to rapid weather changes that have put you as a pleasure boat owner in a vulnerable position,” says Annika Vestergård, head of the Swedish Maritime Administration National Air and Sea Rescue Center in a press release.
