– We do not top the list of where you want to move, but we know that once people come here, they tend to stay, says Johanna Huurre in Helsinki Business Hub, who is behind the campaign, to The Guardian.
When people arrive in the country, they receive help with all necessary documents, accommodation, school or childcare for their children, job opportunities and introduction to the technology sector in Helsinki. Those who prosper in Finland are also offered help to stay permanently in the country.
Most applicants have a family and want to work remotely for their current employer. But more than 800 say they want to start their own companies, while about 60 are investors and some are seeking employment.
The offer has attracted applicants from around the world, predominantly from the United States and Canada. Americans in particular are drawn to free health care, generous parental leave, work-life balance, and Finnish nature.
Finland also has another competitive advantage in the search for coveted labor: its inhabitants have been ranked the happiest in the world for three years in a row.
