Eta has been downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm, but the US NHC hurricane center still warns of “life-threatening flooding” in parts of Central America.
In Honduras, 3,000 people have been forced from their homes in the direction of the storm, according to disaster authority Copeco. Several roads and bridges have been destroyed and the main highway between the capital, Tegucigalpa, and the country’s second-largest city, San Pedro Sula, has been closed due to a landslide.
The storm hit the city of Bilwi in Nicaragua with winds of 58 meters per second and several coastal communities hit hard.
– The information we have is that the Wawa community no longer exists. the sea has completely taken over the community, says local aide Kevin González.
Guatemala has issued flood warnings in border areas with Honduras.
