Those who switch from social benefits to employment should have more money in their wallets.
At the same time, control is reinforced by the unemployed who are actively looking for work and accepting simple jobs.
– The line of work is more important than ever after the crisis of the crown, says the economic-political spokesman of the liberals, Mats Persson.
Mats Persson, the economic-political spokesman for the Liberals.
September 21st Finance Minister Magdalena Andersson (S) presents the 2021 budget bill to the Riksdag.
But almost everything is settled and ready between the government and the two parties of the coalition, the Center Party and the Liberals.
As the leader of the Liberals Nyamko Sabuni said on HD and Sydsvenskan this weekend, his party has fought hard for the “line of work” as the best recipe to lift Sweden out of the crown crisis.
Reduced taxes and reduced subsidies will revive the country.
Now the liberals have passed two of his suggestions along those lines: a whip and a carrot.
– It is important that people take responsibility and look for work during the crown crisis so that you do not get stuck in passivity, says Mats Persson.
• The Whip: Greater control of the traps and the unemployed who are actively seeking work and even accepting unskilled jobs.
In the budget, 30 million are reserved for the Swedish Public Employment Service to tighten the control of cheating with the unemployment insurance fund and incorrect payments. It should be aimed in particular at those who go to the unemployment insurance fund in search of a job in a really active way and who accept a job that is offered even if it is not qualified. Anyone who does not meet the requirements is at greater risk of having their compensation withdrawn.
– Even today, you can get rid of your compensation if you don’t apply for a job hard enough. That requirement needs to be clarified and reinforced, explains Mats Persson.
– It has been a major problem here in Skåne that farmers have not found work despite the high level of unemployment. It is unfortunate that we have this in Sweden in 2020. We are now increasing the demands on people and making them take on greater responsibility.
• The carrot: Those who switch from scholarships to work should be allowed to have more money in their wallets.
When a welfare recipient gets a job today, the allowance can be reduced by as much as the take-home pay. Now the “work incentive” is raised in the rules introduced by the alliance government so that a person who moves from assignment to work can always keep at least 50 percent of their increased income.
Since this means higher spending for municipalities, SEK 100 million is set aside in the state budget for this.
– Today, social assistance is a poverty trap. Those who have social benefits and accept a part-time job often do not receive more money in their wallets. You don’t earn anything by working. Of course, this is a big problem, says Mats Persson.
Refers to an example from an ESO report: For a family with both parents receiving child support, it is not worth taking a job with a salary of SEK 20,000 per month.
– It has devastating consequences. Children who grow up in families where you see that it doesn’t matter if mom and dad work or go home and wave their thumbs all day.
When the corona pandemic hit In the spring, the government, together with the cooperation parties, temporarily raised the compensation levels in the unemployment insurance fund to mitigate the effects for those who lost their jobs. The highest daily allowance is now 1,200 SEK per day.
LO, but also the Green Party, has lobbied the Social Democrats to make the most generous unemployment fund permanent.
But liberals believe that this is contrary to the line of work, and therefore the party wants to restore the unemployment insurance fund to original levels by the end of the year.
In negotiations with the government and the Center Party, the Liberals, according to the line of work, also lobbied for the employee tax to be reduced, to which Stefan Löfven has opened up.
