More and more covid patients are receiving care at Stockholm Hospital. The rate of spread of the infection is also increasing again, after declining last week.
– We see a substantial and serious increase, says infection control doctor Maria Rotzén Östlund.
1,341 new cases have been identified in the past three days, according to Friday’s report. This can be compared to the same period last week when 771 cases were found.
After a slightly lower rate of infection spread in recent weeks, the curve with established cases has become steeper.
– It’s going in the wrong direction. We are monitoring this closely and await the figures for the whole week to see how it performs, says Maria Rotzén Östlund, an infection control physician in the Stockholm Region.
Increase among professionals
Crown falls are on the rise especially among people in their 20s and 60s.
– This means that it is mainly those who are professionals and students, that is, those who move around a lot, who have been infected.
Infection control hopes that the home isolation introduced, where people in homes with confirmed infection will be isolated, will begin to have an effect on the statistics. But the most important measure to break the chains of infection is to avoid congestion, says Rotzén Östlund.
– Everyone must find other ways of socializing again. Continue working from home. It’s not okay with queues and partying in a pandemic.
More people receive care
The number of people receiving covid-19 care at the county hospital is also clearly increasing, depending on the region. A total of 85 patients are treated, eleven more compared to Tuesday. Nine people are receiving intensive care, four more compared to Tuesday.
– So far, it works fine. Also, a lot has been learned about how to treat this disease in spring.
Local general councils, such as in Uppsala, where people are urged to avoid public transport and physical contact with people other than those they live with, are not yet known in Stockholm.
– We are in close contact with the Swedish Public Health Agency and discuss our situation. Although we have not introduced any tips as in Uppsala, I hope Stockholmers will be more careful and behave more like this spring, says Rotzén Östlund.
Next week is fall break.
– If you are going out with other people that you do not usually know, it is good that you find them outdoors.
