The cold blooded star Månprinsen AM is dead. On the Svensk Travsport website, the years in which the horses have died are recorded, in cases where deaths have been reported. Moon Prince AM started in late June, but then galloped. Initially, coach Gunnar Melander feared it was a fractured helmet.
After seeing the horse, a reassuring message arrived:
– The Prince of the Moon is alert and happy and does not show a limp. There is nothing swollen, from what I can tell it can’t be a fork strap injury for example. Like I said, I don’t think he suffered a broken hoof either, Gunnar Melander said then.
The horse has not been seen on the trotting track since and, according to the story, he was at Gunnar Melander’s training until yesterday, December 17. Now the horse is registered as dead. Moon Prince AM turned 13 years old.
The trot round has been in contact with Gunnar Melander they do not want to comment on the matter.
Won five Swedish championships
Moon Prince AM had an outstanding career. At age four he won the Swedish Coldblood Derby and continued to develop gradually, year after year. When he was six years old, he earned his first victory, out of five in total, at the Swedish Championship. Together with Lannem Silje, he gave a memorable duel in the “Cold Blooded Duel” in Dannero.
Månprinsen AM was born by Anders Bodin and is owned by Anna Maria Öberg, Bodin & St Cahling AB. The horse was trained throughout his career by Gunnar Melander, who also drove all 112 starts. There were 71 wins during his career, he ran 9,416,080 SEK and the record was 1,19.0. It left a great impression on the audience through results beyond the ordinary and was elegant as a painting. As a breeding stallion, he has, among other things, Månlykke AM who followed in his father’s footsteps: this summer he won the Swedish Championship.
Five times (2013, 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2018) he was named Cold Blood of the Year at the Horse Gala. For several seasons, he was the most profitable cold-blooded man in Sweden.
