Thursday’s match between Khetag Pliev and Devin Goodale was stopped in the second round when the referee found Pliev’s ring finger was missing.
ESPN writes that they tried to locate the finger for several minutes before it was found in Pliev’s glove.
– In the second round, he (Goodale) grabbed my glove and held on. I felt my finger loosen. He continued putting on my glove and his finger came loose. Then we continue fighting. When the second round was over, I saw that the leg was fully visible. He wanted to keep fighting because he felt like he was in control of the guy, but the doctor saw him and stopped the fight, Pliev told ESPN.
After the match, they managed to sew the finger, but Pliev, who is a former Olympic fighter, will need extra care to minimize the injury.
The match was part of the Cage Fury Fighting Championship in Philadelphia. Devin Goodale took the victory by technical knockout. Pliev says he will appeal the result.
