A ten year old boy had to come home from school in Gnosjö today at lunchtime. Then he disappeared and was absent for several hours.

During the night, they found him at a gas station in Huskvarna.

– It worked well, the police tell the public who helped find the boy.

The boy disappeared on the way home from school at 12:30. During the first hours, the parents registered, but at 2:30 p.m. they called the police.

Several police patrols went out in the afternoon looking for the boy, along with the parents and school personnel. After a few hours, the Missing People organization and the Fikk association (Volunteer Efforts in Crisis and Disaster) also joined with hundreds of volunteers. A helicopter was raised for a time and was searched with the help of a thermal camera, but was quickly taken out of service due to the weather.

Police: Good job

The boy was described as somewhat withdrawn and shy. When he disappeared, he was wearing black jeans, green tennis shoes and a hooded winter jacket.

The police asked for help from people in the area.

– We want to encourage everyone to check into their garages, storage rooms and basements. If in the police we are looking outdoors, the public can make a great effort if we do it indoors, says Daniel Söderqvist, press spokesman for the eastern police region in the afternoon.

The boy, who had previously disappeared without the knowledge of the parents, was found on Wednesday night in Huskvarna, 80 km from the school.

– It was advice from the public. He was found safe and sound at a gas station. We don’t know how it got there, but we’ll find out overnight. The important thing is that it is well preserved, says Daniel Söderqvist.

Police describe the public’s help as fantastic.

– People have received the information that a child has disappeared, so they have helped to search for him. It’s a big media event here in Jönköping, the signal was sent to the taxi companies and county traffic, so it’s probably someone who could have recognized it. So … Good job, says Daniel Söderqvist.
