More people should be able to continue their education later in working life. The government, the Center Party and the Liberals propose that the age limit for the right to study scholarships be increased.

– A changing labor market means that more people need to learn and learn new things throughout their working lives, Matilda Ernkrans (S), Minister of Higher Education and Research, tells TT.

If you are going to be able to do that, you should also be able to have the opportunity to receive student support, even if you study later in life.

It is proposed that the age limit be raised from the current 56 years to 60 years to be entitled to study grants and aid for the beginning of studies. Under the current system, the number of weeks it is possible to take out a student loan decreases from the year you turn 47. That limit should be raised to 51 years.

– This will apply to studies from 2022. Now we will prepare it and it will require changes in the law, says Matilda Ernkrans.

In the budget bill for 2021, it is proposed that funds be set aside to increase the age limits for scholarships and support for the start of studies. Increasing the age limits is estimated to cost SEK 119 million a year.

The government, C and L also propose that the rules on when student loans must be repaid be changed from 60 to 64 years.
