Wild bees have an important role in pollinating flowers, trees, and shrubs. Now, SEK 11 million is invested to create better environments for threatened bumble bees and bees. Stock Photography.
A third of Sweden’s 300 hop and bee species are threatened. To ensure significant pollination, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency is investing SEK 11 million to save some of the country’s most threatened wild bees.
Today there is a lack of sandy environments where wild bees can build nests and flowers where they can obtain food. Through various measures, such environments will be created, for example by digging to create sand spots and sowing and planting plants rich in nectar and pollen, the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency writes in a press release.
The money will go to specific efforts in seven southern Swedish counties: Blekinge, Gotland, Halland, Kalmar, Skåne, Västra Götaland and Östergötland.
At work, the county administrative boards will cooperate with, among other municipalities, the Swedish Church, the Swedish Transport Administration and power companies, reports SVT Nyheter Öst.
