Millions of children are needed for the fire in Slottsskogshallen

On September 15, 2019, that is, exactly one year ago, the historic Slottsskogshallen sports facility burned to the ground. It quickly turned out that two children, both at the age of 12, had started the fire and the leader of the preliminary investigation, Anna Jansson, told DN that the children took the blame. The preliminary investigation was then dropped because the children are not criminally responsible.

– Special leaders of interrogation of children have led the conversations and the children have told their version. They have not intended to burn Slottsskogshallen. The interrogations ended. The debt issue, we must say, has been investigated. We are not looking for another explanation for the fact that it started to burn, he said ten days after the fire.

The lawyers representing the boys and their families confirmed to DN that they admitted to starting the fire in the gym.

– There is no intention, it was an accident that he returned to this measure. The family has participated in the investigation and has behaved responsibly, lawyer Cecilia Kongbäck said when the questioning of the children took place.

It is now clear that the city of Gothenburg, through its insurance company Göta Lejon, will make large claims for damages against the insurance companies for children and families.

– We have made demands on these guys, who have denounced their respective insurance companies. We have made an unspecified claim where we have declared an approximate sum of 30 million, but we still don’t know where it lands because our claims settlement is still ongoing, Göta Lejon claims manager Cecilia Jansson tells Göteborgs-Posten .

Göta Lejon does not claim that the children intended to start the fire but believe they acted carelessly. If the families’ home insurance does not cover the amount required by the city insurance company, claims can be made against the children themselves.

– As we knew they had home insurance, it seemed quite natural to do so. We found out pretty early, and then we felt more human by making a claim. But I cannot say that it is clear that your home insurance pays, because we have not been informed of that. Your home insurance company is investigating, Cecilia Jansson tells GP.
