American alpine skier Mikaela Shiffrin, 25, has had a tough 2020. Not only were most of the competitions canceled, but his father, Jeff, died in February. Jeff Shiffrin was involved in an accident and suffered a devastating head injury. He died in hospital at the age of 65.
The news hit Shiffrin hard, who did not compete for 300 days. He had previously said that he had trouble finding motivation.
On Monday, however, Shiffrin again had to top the podium, when she won the World Cup giant slalom competition in Courchevel, France. Subsequently, Shiffrin was notably captured.
– It’s hard to explain how I feel right now. 95 percent of me didn’t think this was possible, but a small part of me felt it was time. He feels completely crazy, he tells Eurosport.
Swedish number one no threats
The victory was Shiffrin’s 67th in an overall World Cup context. Impressive figures, which means it touches the list of Austrian master Marcel Hirsch. However, to become the most successful skier in history, Shriffrin is slightly above her compatriot Lindsey Vonn’s list of 82 World Cup victories.
