MFF assistant coach Daniel Bäckström leaves the club after the season. Their last game will be the home game against Östersunds FK on December 6.
Amin Sarr and assistant coach Daniel Bäckström rejoice at the Swedish Championship gold
– My plan was to stay a long time at MFF, but sometimes life doesn’t turn out exactly as I thought. The reason for my decision is that I want to be with my girlfriend and my family in Stockholm, and I feel like the time for that is right now, Bäckström comments on the decision in a press release.
Daniel Bäckström joined MFF prior to the 2020 season from an assistant coach position at Örebro SK. Previously, he has been active as academy director at IFK Norrköping and as head coach at IF Sylvia.
– I have had a great time at MFF and although it has been a shorter time than I thought, I am happy with everything I have experienced here. Finishing with a gold in the Swedish Championship is of course also a memory for life.
Head coach Jon Dahl Tomasson comments:
– Soccer is important, but there are things in life that are even more important: your loved ones. Malmö FF is a professional and ambitious club, but of course it also includes emotions and compassion. We fully understand Daniel’s decision and wish him luck, even if it is very sad because we are losing a good coach.
Sporting director Daniel Andersson can now start looking for a new person on the Swedish champion team.
– Daniel has been a much appreciated part of the management staff and also of the club in general. He is not only a good coach, but also a loyal person who brings a lot of joy around him. It’s always sad when nice, competent people leave MFF, but we respect and understand Daniel’s decision.
