The leader of the Radical Left Party, Morten Østergaard, resigned in early October, accused of sexual harassment.
And revelations of sexual abuse in Danish politics in the wake of the metoo movement are already leading to new cases. Frank Jensen of the Social Democrats, mayor of Copenhagen and vice president of the party, is accused by two women of having offended them with unwanted touches.
Already counted 2012
Jensen has previously been accused of inappropriate behavior towards younger women at Christmas parties in 2004 and 2011. In Jyllands-Posten, two other women are now making similar accusations.
One of the women is today a regional councilor in Greater Copenhagen. In 2012, she was 23 when, according to her, 51-year-old Jensen put his hand on her thigh and inserted it under her dress.
The woman says she told party leadership about the incident in 2012, but nothing happened. In September this year, he again told the party secretary, Jan Juul Christensen. A week later, the party leader and Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen took to social media and said:
“I support all women who tell stories. I do it because sexual harassment is abuse of power.”
“The responsibility is mine”
But when nothing else happened, the woman decided to go to Jyllands-Posten.
Frank Jensen responded to the allegations Friday night. On his Facebook page, he apologizes and further writes that:
“It is an event and details that I remember differently. But the fact is that some women have experienced that I have crossed the border. And then the responsibility falls completely on me.”
Investigated by law firm
Social Democrats announced on Saturday that Jensen’s actions will be investigated by an independent law firm.
– I have taken the initiative of the investigation to examine the things that have come up in Jyllands-Posten about Frank Jensen, says the party secretary, Jan Juul Christensen, to the Ritzau news agency.
The mayor will also have to explain himself to his fellow party members during an additional meeting on Sunday, writes the daily Ekstra Bladet.
– I miss Frank’s explanation, and there will be a meeting tomorrow Sunday in which we will talk to Frank about the matter, says Carlo Søndergaard, district president of the Social Democrats in the city center and Christianshavn, to the newspaper.
