Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is urging the Senate to lift Donald Trump’s defense budget veto. It is also uncertain what will happen to the increased support from the crown that the president of the United States and the Democrats want to see.

Many trips
As usual, the United States Congress is deeply divided. But the defense budget is something you normally agree on, this year too. This year, however, President Donald Trump vetoed the approved budget. The main reason is that the budget contains requirements that military bases named after southern generals – for many in the United States a symbol of racism and segregation – must be renamed. Trump doesn’t like that.
With the veto, the ball ended up again in Congress. There, the House of Representatives received the two-thirds majority needed to lift the veto and referred the matter to the second house, the Senate.
The Senate also has the problem of increasing the amount of the check that most tax-paying Americans will receive in support of the crown. Congress previously approved an amount of $ 600. But Trump wants to see an amount greater than $ 2,000, which Democrats also support.
The democratically controlled House of Representatives voted for an increase. When the question ended in the Senate on Tuesday night Swedish time, McConnell stopped a quick vote.
New proposal
Several Republicans have supported an increase, while others are skeptical. Just before the Senate session was adjourned, McConnell decided to back the increase in a new bill, which also includes a review of possible voter fraud in presidential elections, as well as the repeal of legal protection for social media in the defense budget. The protection, called Section 230, is another requirement of the President.
According to CNN, it is unclear if the proposal will ever be presented. It is also unlikely to pass, as Democrats are unlikely to support it.
“It will not pass the House of Representatives and cannot become law,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said in a statement, according to Reuters.
Of course, McConnell is aware of this, but by submitting the proposal, a process has been formally started and McConnell can claim that he met Trump.
Pending a decision on the amount of the check, Finance Minister Steven Mnuchin announces that the process of sending checks with the lower amount is beginning.
