May become relevant with Swedish space defense

In the United States, a military space force was launched last year. The Royal Swedish Academy of Military Sciences is now discussing whether Sweden also needs its own space defense, reports Swedish Radio.

– Much of our country depends on technology and much of it is based on space services. If it had a riot, it would affect the whole of society, says Mats Helgesson, retired chief of the air force, at P1 Morgon.

“Is it necessary to obtain information?”

It also says:

– At first, you have to think about what we want from the space. It is above all to keep track of what is out there, what is moving above our heads, what those things can do and how they can transmit knowledge to the person who has sent them. Then there is also the need to perhaps have your own ability to collect information from space. There are both passive and active measures that can be important to total defense.

According to Helgesson, Sweden would then be “a link in a great machine”.

– No nation can have the whole world covered and monitored all the time, cooperation is required, says in P1 Morgon.
