Maximat in Svinesund and Nordby warns 200 others

Before the crown crisis, Grensemat had 350 employees.

About 100 have already been reported and if you add another 200 it means there may be 50 employees left soon.

– This feels very tragic. After 26 great years with the company, it is very sad that this affects our fantastic employees, says Göran Lundgren to Strömstads Tidning.

Union negotiations have begun, Market writes.

The last six months have been pressuring the company.

– Now we have waited and lived on hope for six months. But in the end, you have to make a decision. Due to the situation with the border and the uncertainty, we have nothing to plan, Göran Lundgren tells Strömstads tidning.

Ole Jörgen Lind is a store manager at Maximat Nordby and tells Strömstads tidnig that the atmosphere is grim today:

– You feel miserable. If you go back seven months in time, the cross-border trade was very good, we had an increasing volume of business and nobody was worried about the jobs. And then a disease like this comes along and takes her legs off for everything.

Maximat Nordby and the other border trade stores have previously been described as selling the most food of all Swedish stores, even in 2012.
