Last year, Mattias Guter could only play 26 games due to injury problems.

Those issues have kept up with this year’s season, and the Djurgårds forward has been unable to play since 18 February. This is due to recurring symptoms after a concussion and problems with a disc in the back.

Now the 32-year-old has made the decision to end his professional hockey career.

– I have had problems in recent years, I just have not felt well physically, and then I made the decision not to play again for my own health, it says on the Djurgården website.

Mattias Guter: “A great test”

Guter made his debut in Djurgården as early as the 2004/2005 season in the J18 team and then continued with the J20 and debuted in the senior category in the SHL (then the Elite Series).

Since then, he has played on Vita hästen, Norwegian kite Halden, Oskarshamn, Leksand, Karlskrona, Almtuna, Timrå and Luleå. He then returned to Djurgården, where he played for three seasons.

Guter admits it was a difficult decision to make.

– Since March and all summer, it has been hard inside and an inner stress about who I am, what I should do and what I want to do. It has been a great test. You have lived one way and suddenly it ends.
