Uzbekistan.

At least 70,000 residents have been forced to abandon their homes since a large dam exploded in the Sardobar reservoir in eastern Uzbekistan. Parts of the dust wall erupted on Friday, but the extent of the disaster was evident only on Saturday.

Prosecutors on Sunday opened a criminal investigation for negligence by the authorities, as well as for crimes in the construction of the dam.

Construction of the Sardobar reservoir began in 2010 under the supervision of current President Shavkat Mirzijoev, who was then Prime Minister. The dam was ready for 2017.

President Mirzijoev traveled to the disaster area to review the situation during the evacuation.

About 50 people are reportedly being cared for in hospitals and 600 houses have been flooded. Severe weather with strong winds and rain should have preceded the dust accident.

Kazakhstan is also affected, 5,000 inhabitants near the dust disaster have been evacuated. The Kazakh regime criticizes the neighboring country for being late with information on the magnitude of the disaster.

The regional government considers that extensive cultivation has been destroyed, especially when cotton is grown.
