Do you like Christmas?
– I love it. I am a complete fetishist. I just decorated my office for Christmas and raised the nativity scene, it looks like a little sparkling Christmas hell. So I’m looking forward to Christmas, but if we’re going to be honest, 2020 has been a horrible year. We are moving into a time when many will feel very isolated and alone. You can pierce that sentiment a thousand different ways, and a Christmas calendar is just a needle in a haystack, but it is still a needle. Of course, the days will be tough, but I want to deliver three bright happy minutes in the middle of this.
What will your Christmas calendar contain?
– For many years I was head of SVT’s Christmas calendar and the criticism we received was that the program contained very little Christmas. So now I think: Christmas, Christmas, Christmas. I review all my memories related to Christmas. I have managed to write about a third of the episodes and there will be many anecdotes and family stories. December 6 is Finland’s national day and unsurprisingly, the episode for that day will be about Finland in particular. I googled very carefully about different traditions and try to build the sections around what the day traditionally offers.
You are one of the favorites of the Swedes to take on the task of organizing Christmas at SVT. Does this reach that level?
– Oh, that’s a difficult comparison. I think it’s a lot of fun with SVT’s Christmas program and I’d like to say yes to that assignment at some point if it fits. But it’s a completely different kind of task I think. It is not really possible to compare.
